Anyox, mining town - BC
Anyox a company-owned mining town (gold, silver and copper), built in 1912, closed in 1935 with a population of 3,000 residents, is an additional site amongst the places documented over the years in BC. Anyox is a perfect example of how capital moves, whom it displaces, and where it leaves its footprint.
Many debris from abandoned buildings and structures are to be found from the previous steam plant, concentrator, hydroelectric dam, (high of 48 meters , it was the tallest dam in Canada for many years), power house, smelter, flotation mill, general store, etc. Situated at 145 kms north of Prince Rupert and 60 kms southeast of Stewart, boat and sea plane are the only transportation means to get there.
